The Known Realms of Airnea
We don't know why the lands of Airnea were broken apart, but legends tell of a great War of Wizards many millennia ago. Wizards of such great power and arrogance, they blew the continents into the sky, and the sea fell into the mists below, which is forever known as the Great Kockup. Physics threw up it's hands and took a vacation, Reason decided to get drunk and eventually landed in rehab. Thus the Ancient Wizards brought doom upon themselves and all of us too.
It was then that a miracle happened, but that is a mystery. A Sestina Millennia rolled by, the continents found their orbits, life again emerged, and evolution ripped a line of angel dust and went into overdrive. Eventually the Nohmish awoke, then the Dwarves, and finally the Children of Men emerged from their slumbering tombs, and began rebuilding civilization. The suns, moons and stars still hang as they ever did in the celestial firmament, and give us their maps of the seasons, months, and years. For the farmer, the barbarian, and the serf, that is all that is needed, along with a patch of firm earth under your feet. But for the Vergerunner, a little more is needed: an oracle compass, perhaps an airship, and a large helping of luck. Friendly creatures abound, as do unspeakable horrors. May you find more of the former, and that they make you ready to face the latter.
For the world still has many places still unexplored which kings and sages want discovered for conquest or history. This is why we Vergerunners, cavaliers, sorcerers, plumbers and rogues alike, defy the modest ambition of land-dwellers and take to the skies of Airnea.
